Well fear no more. Come and join us to learn the pronunciation of the main grape varieties and wine regions you are most likely to encounter. You will receive a certificate and pocket sized pronunciation handbook with a phonetic system for pronouncing the most common grape varieties and wine regions. No one wants to sit in a classroom and just practice pronunciation without some refreshments, so we will have some wines along with some bread, cheese and chocolate. What a perfect way to spend the hour!

Train Your Palate Workshop

Thursday, 20 August 2009 7:30pm - 9:30pm

It is not easy to differentiate all the different flavours and sensations found in wine. This is especially since wine often tastes of a range of unusual things, from blueberries to tar and from lemons to petrol. Why doesn't it just taste of grapes? Find out the difference between sweet and fruity, terroir driven wines compared to fruit driven wines and what do tannins and oak flavours have in common? As well as flavours, learn to differentiate between levels of sugar and acidity and other palate sensations.

Learn to train your palate, as our experienced tutor takes you through various flavours and sensations found in wine, in order for you to be able to pick up these distinctive flavours and sensations. We will be using a range of techniques including some food-safe chemicals brought directly from the Australian Wine Research Institute in Adelaide.

Fee: HK$ 580 per person

Special Price for AWSEC students: HK$ 428

Please email hongkong@vincrest.com for details

The Art of Blending Workshop

Tuesday, 25 August 2009 7:30pm - 9:30pm

Which is better - a wine made from one grape variety, or a blend? The answer to the question really depends on why the blend is made in the first place. The fact is that many of the world's finest wines are made by blending not just different grape varieties but the grapes of different vineyards and wine from different oak barrels. This is referred to as the assemblage.

Try for yourself, does Cabernet Sauvignon taste different when blended with a small portion of Merlot? What happens when you add a bit of Cabernet Franc to Merlot?

Understand the reasons behind the assemblage, as our tutor takes you through this hands-on workshop. And try for yourself how the character of wine changes when you blend different grape varieties.

You will have the opportunity to blend your own creation from Bordeaux single grape variety barrel samples as well as making a Chardonnay to your own level of 'oakiness' and you can take your blends home with you.

Fee: HK$ 580 per person

Special Course Fee for AWSEC students: HK$ 428

Please email hongkong@vincrest.com for details
