The Foundation
Certificate in Spirits is an entry level qualification providing a
straightforward introduction to spirits. It aims to provide the basic
product knowledge and skills in service and marketing of spirits to
prepare a person for their first job in hospitality or the spirit
industry.

The WSET Untermediate Certificate is intended as vocational training in product knowledge for those employed in the drinks industry who have little previous knowledge of wines and spirits. The course is also appropriate for those not employed in the drinks industry but who wish to broaden their knowledge in a structured way. The WSET Level 3 Advanced Certificate is intended to provide in-depth knowledge of a wide range of wines and spirits and is open to students who hold the WSET Level 2 Certificate or can demonstrate knowledge at Intermediate level through completion of equivalent courses or sufficient experience in the wine and spirit industry. This qualification is also suitable for the wine enthusiast wishing to build on knowledge gained at Level 2. The Advanced Certificate is a unitised course, covering wines and spirits of the world in considerable depth, and students are required to prove competency in theory and tasting. The old format examination for the Advanced Certificate is in two parts: a theory examination of 50 multiple-choice questions and four short-answer questions, plus a tasting examination consisting of a blind tasting of one wine. [Important Announcement - New Format for WSET Advanced Tasting Exam]After 1 August 2010, the Advanced Tasting Exam will change to written tasting notes of two wines - one white wine and one red wine. The current tasting exam format is an assessment of one wine only in tick format tasting grid. For those who wish

The
Level 4 Diploma is WSET's flagship
qualification. The qualification is designed to prepare people for
responsible jobs within the wine and spirits business. The course will
not only develop product knowledge to a specialist level, but will also
enable students to acquire skills that will continue to be of use
beyond the course. The course is taught by industry experts, many are
Masters of Wine, all will have up to date knowledge of contemporary
issues
related to wines and spirits. The WSET Diploma is viewed universally as the stepping-stone to the Master of Wine qualification. The Level 3 Advanced Certificate is the required entry qualification for anyone wishing to enrol on the Diploma course. The Diploma consists of six units and requires a student to prove competency through a variety of assessment methods. Course programmes will prepare students for their examinations through an integrated programme of lectures, tastings, tutorials, feedback tests and essays. The Diploma course is a blend of taught time, assessment and self-study and requires substantial commitment outside the classroom. [Course Structure] The WSET
Diploma is a two-year programme (60 credits) divided
into 6 units: Unit 1 (12 credits) The Global Business of Alcoholic Beverages Unit 2 (6 credits) Wine Production Unit 3 (30 credits) Light Wines of the World Unit 4 (6 credits) Spirits of the World Unit 5 (3 credits) Sparkling Wines of the World Unit 6 (3 credits) Fortified Wines of the World In Academic Year 2010/11, Unit 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 will be for the new students whilst Unit 3 will be for 2nd Year students. Pronunciation Workshop
Come and join us to learn the pronunciation of the main grape varieties and wine regions you are most likely to encounter. You will receive a certificate and pocket sized pronunciation handbook with a phonetic system for pronouncing the most common grape varieties and wine regions.
